Public meeting Thursday to discuss Cumberland Ave. plans


Big changes are coming to the Cumberland Avenue Strip, but first this area will under go a two-year reconstruction project.

The community will get a chance to see and discuss plans for Cumberland Avenue with city leaders at the University of Tennessee Visitors Center on Neyland Drive at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Staff from the city, contractors and KUB will be on hand to talk about the timeline and how the project will affect traffic along the strip over the next two years.

Hike in heels aims to raise awareness of sexual assault


One group's hike through the UT campus Wednesday carried a powerful message.

Dozens of people joined in the "Hike the Hill in Heels" event. Many of them put on heels for the march from Circle Park to the Hill to kick off Sexual Assault Awareness month at UT.

Organizers say the reason they wore high heels was to make the walk uncomfortable while they read facts about sexual assaults.

Big Ears Festival kicks off Friday in downtown Knoxville


Big Ears Festival will fill downtown Knoxville with music this weekend.

The Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet is headlining the festival Friday-Sunday.

Vice hailed Big Ears as "one of the country's most audacious musical experiments" and Rolling Stone magazine called it "the classiest, most diverse festival in the country."
