Kids can't buy tobacco products, but in Tennessee children as young as 9 are working in tobacco fields and suffering symptoms consistent with acute nicotine poisoning, according to a report by an international human rights group.

IceCream Floats, LLC offers “ice cream with a mission” as the servers on board will be students and individuals raising money to take mission trips and support nonprofit organizations.

Community Health Alliance opened its headquarters downtown Monday afternoon. With more provisions of the Affordable Care Act set to take effect next year, there's a growing market for health insurance.

CHA will help provide health care for hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans using either an online marketplace or an insurance agent. Its CEO says his company is very different from traditional health care providers.

New residential, retail spaces coming to old Downtown Knoxville buildings

Four new developments are in the works for the new year in downtown Knoxville.

"2013 is our most aggressive year. We've got more projects happening. We've got a lot of work going on," said Developer David Dewhirst.

Dewhirst, who has about 300 residential rental properties right now, said they are all booked.

"We turn people away everyday," Dewhirst said.

That's why his company is creating 160 new lofts downtown.

Opening first is the Armature, an 80,000 square feet of 76 residential lofts and five retail spaces.

Market Square marketers change leadership

The Market Square District Association, or MSDA, held elections this week and is expected to start new plans in 2013.

Chyna Brackeen, the newly elected president, said the board did not meet quorum at its last meeting, so it could not elect officers. 

Brackeen said the new board has 11 members who will  be looking into how they can best serve  members, including business owners, property owners, and residents.

Local market square business owners said they are happy to hear about the upcoming changes.
