Non-profit health insurance provider opens in Downtown Knoxville | Business
The leader of a new, non-profit health insurance provider in Knoxville says his company stands out from the rest.
Community Health Alliance opened its headquarters downtown Monday afternoon. With more provisions of the Affordable Care Act set to take effect next year, there's a growing market for health insurance.
CHA will help provide health care for hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans using either an online marketplace or an insurance agent. Its CEO says his company is very different from traditional health care providers.
"The advantage we have is we're not gonna send any profits to Wall Street, and we're not going to hoard money in Chattanooga. We're going to lower our premiums and keep them affordable for the average citizen," said Jerry Burgess.
Small business and individuals can begin enrolling in October, and the new insurance system begins next January.
