Gay Street named one of 10 Great American Streets for 2012

From the City of Knoxville: Gay Street, with its mix of history, rebirth and pedestrian friendliness, has been named one of 10 Great Streets for 2012 by the American Planning Association. 

The APA, an independent, not-for-profit educational organization, designated Gay Street as one of 10 Great Streets for 2012 under the organization's Great Places in America program, which recognizes exceptional character and promotes the role planning and planners have in adding value to communities.

East Tennesseans crowd UT campus for Hoda and Kathie Lee

The TODAY Show made a big splash in Big Orange Country Monday as Hota Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford, Sara Haines and the rest of the fourth hour crew set up shop on the University of Tennessee's Knoxville campus.

"I was up until 2:30 last night in preparation for skipping class this morning," UT student Shelby Burchell said.

She joined her friends and hundreds of others on The Hill in front of Ayres Hall for the live broadcast of the fourth hour of the TODAY Show.

It was a scene over at the University of Tennessee Monday morning. The lawn of Ayers Hall had been transformed into a television wonderland, albeit a damp and soggy wonderland of orange.

People from all over came down to campus to be a part of the TODAY show. Kathie Lee and Hoda did not disappoint! From the moment they came toward us, Hoda was being sassy and shaking her orange and white pom poms right into the camera lens.

Kip Moore set to perform at UT Monday for 'Today'

Kip Moore is set to share the spotlight with the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on Monday when he performs his two-week No. 1 song, "Somethin' 'Bout a Truck," on NBC's "Today" from the Big Orange's campus.

The performance is part of a the "Kathie Lee and Hoda Go Back to College" special.

The University of Tennessee won a contest to determine which school would be selected to host the morning show.

Moore says he's looking forward to the visit.
