Death of elderly Knoxville woman called suspicious

The death of an elderly Knoxville woman is being called suspicious,

Knoxville Police were called to a home on Alliance Drive near downtown Knoxville on Friday. They were told an 84-year-old woman had fallen down the steps and her son was helping her to get back in bed.

When officers arrived, they found Windy Hudson had died. Because of injuries to her body, investigators were suspicious. Her cause of death will not be released until a full autopsy report is complete.

(WBIR - Knox County) Frantic screams filled the area near Rocky Hill Elementary School Wednesday afternoon as the the school's principals ran to rescue a young student. One moment he was on the playground playing with a ball. The next, taken by a stranger driving a white SUV.

It's wasn't an actual child abduction, only a large-scale test for the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Update: UT Police determine robbery report to be false

After an investigation, UT Police determined a reported attempted robbery early Saturday morning was a false report.

The UT student who reported the robbery later told police the incident did not happen. Officials then charged him with filing a false police report. That is a Class D Felony.

"We take false reports very seriously and we will prosecute when a false
report is filed because it unnecessarily activates emergency resources
and causes undue concern for our campus community," UT Police statement.

Student claims assault outside UT sorority

The UT Police Department said it is investigating a possible assault in the new Sorority Village.

A female UT student reported a man had grabbed her from behind when she was outside a sorority house around 1 a.m. Saturday morning on Ann Baker Furrow Boulevard.

Police said the victim kicked the suspect and was able to run into her sorority house but did report minor injuries.

Vanessa Coleman jury to be selected from West Tennessee

With the trials of her three co-defendants still on hold as a new judge takes over, Vanessa Coleman will face another jury next week.  That jury will come from West Tennessee.

Coleman was the only woman charged in the brutal murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom.  The young Knox County couple was carjacked, raped, and killed in 2007.  Four people were charged in connection with their deaths, and three men were found guilty of first degree murder.  Coleman was found guilty of facilitation of Christian's murder.

Baumgartner guilty on 5 of 6 counts, loses pension

A federal jury has found former disgraced Knox County judge Richard Baumgartner guilty on 5 of the 6 counts against him.

Baumgartner is charged with misprision of a felony, which in this case accuses Baumgartner of knowingly covering up a drug conspiracy involving his mistress, and former graduate of the drug court he founded, Deena Castleman.

Jury deliberations in Baumgartner trial to resume Wednesday

The federal jury in charge of deciding the fate of former disgraced Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner has gone home for the night.  It asked Judge Ronnie Greer though a note late Tuesday afternoon to be released at 4:30 p.m.  They will resume deliberations Wednesday morning.

The jury deliberatwed for about two and a half hours before the judge released them.  There is no indication about how close the jury is to reaching a verdict.
