Once a year, every mother has one day to be honored. This year, make that day even more special by celebrating on the Tennessee River with Volunteer Princess Cruises.

The Volunteer Princess will be offering both a brunch and dinner option for Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2013. The brunch menu will feature a delightful buffet including a variety of breakfast and lunch items. The Dinner Cruise menu will feature a plated meal with entree choice of bacon wrapped chicken breast, beef medallions or salmon.

It’s Secret City Festival time again in Oak Ridge! The bands have been selected, the schedule is filling up, and tickets to this year’s headliner concerts go on sale Monday, May 6.  Tickets are priced at an early bird rate of $17. After June 7, ticket prices go up to $20.

The Area's Largest Used Book Sale kicks off this weekend

The 2013 Annual Used Book Sale, organized by the Friends of the Knox County Public Library, starts this at the Knoxville Convention and Exhibition Center under the Holiday Inn World's Fair Park.

More than 100,000 fiction and non-fiction books will be on sale to the public for $1 (for children) to $2 (adults). Affordable movies, magazines and music will also be offered, as well as a special selection of rare or collectible books.

The sale helps raise funds to support special library programs for children, teens and adults.

The Muslim Student Association at the University of Tennessee prepares to kick-off its 12th annual “Fast-a-thon,” an event that hopes to raise more than two thousand dollars for the Love Kitchen, a local food pantry, in a single day.

Knox Walks is a fitness walking program aimed at helping participants make a healthy lifestyle change through regular walking. If you are looking to walk with a group and add more activity to your day, then please join us for exercise and camaraderie. Participants are asked to commit to attending one group walk every week for 10 weeks. In return, walkers will receive weekly educational material on fitness and nutrition, a t-shirt, other goodies, and entry to the KTC EXPO 5-Mile Walk on May 25th.
