Pageant for kids emphasizes natural beauty

A staple of baby beauty pageants is toddlers in tiaras, glitter, and glamour.

An upcoming pageant stressing a more natural approach.

Summer Blalock is Ms. Tennessee United States, a pageant coach, and a pageant judge.

She started competing in beauty pageants at age 8.

"I was very clumsy and very shy as a child and now that I've done pageants I've completely changed. I'm outgoing, I'm free spirited," Summer Blalock said.

A popular Hollywood pirate made a stop in Knoxville on Friday morning.

Kevin McNally, better known as "Gibbs" in Pirates of the Caribbean took time away from his appearances at Adventure-con and visited with several kids at the East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

McNally says he loves Knoxville and visited this summer when he took a road-trip across the country with his son.

McNally's character, Gibbs, was Jack Sparrow's right-hand man in every Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Event on Market Square aims to raise awareness of mental illness

Raising awareness and reducing the stigma of mental illness was the goal at Friday's Community Awareness Celebration.

More than two dozen organizations were out on Market Square letting people know about local resources for mental illnesses.

The Helen Ross McNabb Center and the Behavioral Health Awareness Coalition teamed up for this event as part of Mental Illness Awareness Week.

"We have a lot of people with mental illness, and making the community aware of mental health will help our community," said Sheliia Williams.
