'Click It or Ticket' campaign kicks off today

Monday kicked off the start of the national campaign urging drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Officials said they hope "Click It or Ticket" campaign reminds people that wearing a seat belt could mean the difference between life or death.

Many fatal accidents could have been avoided if people were wearing their seat belts. Last year officials said more than 360 fatal crash victims in Tennessee weren't wearing seat belts. So far this year, 128 fatal crash victims were unrestrained.

Remote Area Medical film debuts at the Tennessee Theater

Thursday night, hundreds of people gathered at the Tennessee Theater to see the premiere of "Remote Area Medical" the movie.

The documentary takes moviegoers inside the operations of a clinic put on by the Knoxville based relief organization. RAM founder Stan Brock said he wanted to bring attention to the millions of Americans who lack healthcare in this country.

He said he's hopeful this documentary will shed more light on that issue.

Knox Co. students can receive FluMist vaccinations this month

Knox County students will soon have the opportunity to receive the FluMist vaccine at school, but only if their parents approve.

The Knox County Health Department (KCHD) will kick off this year's in-school influenza vaccination program on September 16. Clinics will be held elementary and middle schools as well as some Head Starts, private schools and child care centers.

UT debuts new treatment for cancer patients

UT Medical Center is now treating cancer patients with a new radiotherapy system.

The Varian True Beam system is the latest, most advanced system for delivering radiation treatments for cancer patients. UT is the first medical center in the region to use the technology.

True Beam makes it possible to deliver treatments very precisely, targeting the cancer cells within a millimeter, limiting damage to healthy cells.
