UT says power should be restored in dorm around midnight

Full power is expected to be restored to a UT dorm around midnight Thursday.

The outage has affected more than 400 young men living in North Carrick, and dozens of women in South Carrick.

Thursday was the second night the dorm was closed.

An electrical problem caused the outage.

UT says they should have all power restored to a residence hall that's been in the dark since Wednesday by 10 pm Thursday night.

Crews have been working on the power issues all day.  The building remains heated and all emergency lobby and security lighting and other systems are still operating, but lighting and outlets were not working in all of North Carrick, which houses 436 male students.  UT said Thursday afternoon that a 88 female students in a small portion of South Carrick were also affected,

Students have the option of staying another night somewhere else, or returning to the dorm after 10 pm, when the power is restored.

The building remains open during the day. Staff members will be on hand to escort students to their rooms to collect any necessary belongings after dark.
