UT dedicates state-of-the-art Tickle Engineering buidling

UT is building a reputation for its strong Engineering program, and on Friday the school dedicated a new, state-of-the-art facility, alongside the man who made it possible.

The John D. Tickle Engineering is named for alum and Strongwell Corporation founder, John Tickle. Strongwell specializes in making everything from ladders to fences and hand tools.

The $23 million-dollar donation from Tickle and his wife helped pay for the building that is now home to 24 labs, three classrooms and a lecture hall, plus plenty of student workplaces and dozens of faculty offices to attract top talent in the field.

Tickle says bringing top-notch facilities to UT can only help student achievement.

"Well, I want them to walk away with a terrific education and an education to let them accomplish anything in life they want to accomplish," said Tickle.

The five-story building opened to students and faculty at the beginning of the fall semester.
