KPD drops rape investigation against ex-UT football player | News
Knoxville police announced Wednesday that it has closed a rape investigation against a former University of Tennessee football player because the alleged victim does not want to press charges.
UT defensive back Riyahd Jones was the only person of interest listed a single-page police report documenting a forcible rape that apparently happened the night of Feb. 5 at the Gateway at Knoxville Apartments on 301 S. Lippencott Street in south Knoxville.
Officials never arrested or charged Jones with the crime.
Jones was a senior defensive back for the Vols in 2014 but never played in any games. Three days before the alleged rape occurred, Jones tweeted that he would be transferring.
The defensive back originally played at Georgia Southern as a freshman in 2011, where he played 10 games. He then transferred to Garden City Community College in Kansas for the 2012 season, before transferring to Tennessee in 2013. Jones played in two games as a junior in 2013.
