"Red Zone" raises awareness of sexual assault on UT campus | News
(WBIR-KNOXVILLE) The University of Tennessee is using a creative way to educate students as they walk to class about sexual assault.
UT's Wellness Center rolled out a red carpet on the agricultural campus Monday in hopes of raising awarenss for the "Red Zone." That's the time of year in the fall semester when students are statistically more at risk for sexual assault. Nationally, that is from the start of school until Thanksgiving break.
Organizers say they hope displays like this will help build up the culture of consent.
"Sexual assault is just a large problem in general and we're just trying to combat it as best we can right now," said Fletcher Haverkamp, UT Wellness Center.
UT will have pop-up Red Zone installations like the one today around campus through the month of September.
