Water main break causes road wash out near UT campus | News
(WBIR - Near UT Campus) Crews are working to repair a water main break that occurred Thursday night near a popular strip of restaurants and bars by the University of Tennessee campus.
A 6-inch water main break on the North side of Cumberland Avenue caused the issue on 22nd Street, according to a spokesman with Knoxville Utility Board. He said the water main break caused the pavement to wash out. Impacted areas include the road, sidewalk, and part of the Cumberland Avenue Cookout Restaurant parking lot.
A number of social media posts indicated that people were told to evacuate Cookout Restaurant because of the issue.
KUB said a full crew is responding and will have to turn the water valve off and dig into the street to determine how long it will take to fix. KUB estimated the water main will likely be fixed by Friday morning, but repairing the pavement will take longer. They don't expect any businesses or homes to be without water.
Officials said Cumberland Avenue should not be impacted because the issue is contained to 22nd Street.
