Students back from Uganda with new world view

Some people spend the summer taking it easy buy not those in a particular study abroad program.

About a dozen University of Tennessee students spent six weeks this summer in the African country of Uganda.

They returned last month.

"I felt like it was home like it was here. You go into someone's home, you eat with them and you see their children and it was really sweet," UT senior Candace Lawson.

"RIVR Media has just a wonderful group of creative, fun people and it just makes waking up everyday and coming to work a great thing to do."

Dee got her first taste of television at a very young age.

A prominent downtown building that's home to the Knoxville Convention and Visitors Bureau no longer carries the name of its former president, Gloria Ray. New leadership at the CVB calls this a next step in re-branding itself as "Visit Knoxville."

If you look up close on the brick wall of the Visitor's Center you'll notice some leftover glue. Those spots are where a sign once identified it as the Gloria Ray building.

"Before the signs came down, we got some feedback. Since they've been down, we haven't really gotten any," said "Visit Knoxville" President Kim Bumpas.

Tennessee and North Carolina State haven't met on a football field since 1939, but there is some familiarity between the two.

Vols coach Derek Dooley played at Virginia when North Carolina State coach tom O'Brien was an assistant for the Cavaliers.

Dooley said O'Brien is still a friend and a mentor.

Summitt receives Billie Jean King Legacy Award

The season of honors continued for Tennessee Lady Vols Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt as she is named the recipient of the Billie Jean King Legacy Award.

The award is presented by the US Tennis Association to a person whose courage and contributions helped change the cultural landscape.

Dick Sterchi, senior account executive with WNOX, died at his home Friday night, according to a release from the radio station.
