Tennessee Vols beat Troy in a down to the wire game on Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium

The close game was a surprise, especially against a team that lost last week 6-2 to Florida Atlantic.

Marlin Lane rushed for a tie-breaking 9-yard touchdown with 1:25 remaining. Tennessee rallied to edge Troy 55-48. The game featured 1,439 combined yards in total offense, which is the most ever in a Tennessee football game.

The Tennessee defense knows it will have its hands full this weekend with a high-octane Troy offense coming to town averaging 459.6 yards of total offense per game entering Saturday's Homecoming showdown.

Electric car charging stations open on UT campus

Electric car charging stations open on UT campus

UT has opened a dozen electric car charging stations on campus. It's part of the university's overall goal to reduce its carbon footprint.

About half of the charging stations are on the UT agriculture campus. These spaces will be open to the campus community and the public.

"This is part of regional effort in the Knoxville area to get chargers out all over the place. So that won't be a barrier to people buying electric cars," said Mark Hairr of UT Parking and Transit Services.

For the first few months, the chargers will be free to use.

Former Vols call for Dooley's departure

In Derek Dooley's three years as UT Football's head coach, he's never secured a win against a ranked team.

Most everyone agrees he inherited a tough situation, but some former Vol players say he's lost his shot to turn it around.

Former UT quarterback Erik Ainge and former UT wide receiver Jayson Swain both say Dooley should coach the season, but announce his departure soon.

"I think if there's a coach out there, a big name, home run coach that wants to take this job, I think you throw the check book at him," says Ainge. "This town needs it."

Vols honor those battling cancer with walk, pink jerseys

The Lady Vols soccer team traded their orange for pink on Thursday. They celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with their Goal Pink game.

Fans who wore pink got into the game free.

Before the game, the team hosted a reception to honor breast cancer fighters and survivors.

Two members of the UT athletic family are also paying tribute to those battling that all too familiar disease.

The Light the Night walk on the UT campus is an annual fundraising walk honoring those battling cancer. It also raises funds for research.
