Costco opens in West Knoxville

A brand new grocery store and retail chain opened in West Knoxville Friday morning.

Dozens of customers were waiting in line when the new Costco opened at 8:00 am.  Many of them say they have been eagerly anticipating the brand name, bulk foods retail giant.

The 146-thousand square foot facility has everything from electronics, to name brand clothes to food.

This is the fifth Costco in the state, and customers were excited about the new shopping option.

No. 17 Gamecocks beat Tennessee 38-35

Tennessee lost to No. 17 ranked South Carolina 35-38 in Columbia, S.C. on Saturday.

This loss adds another to UT's list. The team hasn't won a game in October, and this is the third-straight-year Tennessee starts SEC zero to five.

Vols were down as many as two touchdowns, twice during that game. Still the team kept fighting throughout the four quarters, but fell short due to a costly turnover.

City Council approves $1.5M for University Commons project

Knoxville city council members voted on second reading to give the developers of the University Commons project more than $1 million.

Developers have said they were $3 million short on funding for their effort to build a Walmart and Publix near UT's campus. They said they needed the city to help make up part of the difference.

So Tuesday by a vote of seven to two, city council gave final approval for using $1.5 million in public funds for the project.

People lined up Wednesday morning, ready for the start of the Flip Flop Consignment.

A lot of consignments focus on children's items, but this is one of the few that focuses on clothes and other products for adults.
The owner holds the event twice a year.

She says it is a lot of work, and it is worth it.

Developers plan to renovate former downtown Arby's location

The building that once housed an Arby's restaurant on Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville will soon be renovated.

Developers plan to renovate the building from the ground up, at a cost of more than $2.4 million.

This building has sat vacant since Arby's closed in 2010.

Tuesday, the city council approved the developer's request to freeze the current property tax rate for ten years.
