Fans say ESPN presence amplifies atmosphere in Knoxville

ESPN College Gameday will begin its live coverage of the Tennessee vs. Florida game at 9:00 a.m. Saturday on Knoxville's campus.

Eager fans started lining up late Friday afternoon in hopes of showing their Vol pride on national television.

If you're looking for a hotel room for the big Tennessee-Florida game this weekend, expect a small number of availabilities for a big cost.

"Look for anything online," said Alan Avriett, a Florida fan coming to Rocky Top. 10News met Avriett and his brother, Scott, a Vols fan, as they were driving to town. "There was nothing less than $300, and I said that's not going to happen, because we're staying three nights," Alan added.

It's clear that Tennessee fans are ready for the big game this weekend, but so are Gator fans, especially those living in East Tennessee.

"(It's) a lot of fun because everybody wants to argue, and everybody wants to fight, and I always get to have the last word 'cause we win 90 percent of the time," said Eric Oakes, a Gator fan who delivers mail in the Farragut area.

Most days, he says he wears a Florida shirt and baseball cap. And he's always sporting his Gator tattoo.

No increase in Vol Navy boaters before big game, yet

With the Gators and ESPN's College Gameday coming to town, you'd think Big Orange fever would have already swept the town, but that's really not the case down at Volunteer Landing.

Vol Navy boaters haven't seen any kind of increase in boats this week. In fact, one boater said he remembers seeing many more boats before other big games in the past.

But make no mistake, Vol Navy faithful say the Tennessee River will be full of orange and white by Friday.
