Knox Co. Schools: Book did not adhere to district guidelines

Knox County Schools says staff at Hardin Valley Academy did not follow district guidelines when they selected a controversial book as part of required summer reading.

Students enrolled in the STEM program at Hardin Valley Academy were required to read a science-fiction book called "Robopocalypse."

Sam Lee, the parent of a 14-year-old student, said the book is full of foul language, including the "f" word, and should never have been assigned.

Labor Day Duck Race held at World's Fair Park for first time

The foul weather Monday afternoon wasn't idea, but it was fit for some ducks.

Thousands of small, yellow, rubber ducks raced for first place in the Labor Day Duck Race at World's Fair Park.

The race is a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley.

People could adopt a duck for a small price. The money helps support more than 5,000 youth and teens in East Tennessee.

The race is an annual tradition, but this is the first year it hasn't been held on the Tennessee River.
