No. 18 Gators vs. No. 23 Vols brings back memories

No. 18 Gators vs. No. 23 Vols brings back memories

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Steve Spurrier isn't directing pregame barbs at Phillip Fulmer. Danny Wuerffel and Peyton Manning aren't throwing any passes.

Yet there's an unmistakable sense of 1990s nostalgia in the air now that national relevance has returned to the Florida-Tennessee rivalry. When No. 23 Tennessee opens Southeastern Conference competition Saturday against No. 18 Florida, it will mark the first time since 2007 that both are ranked at the time of their annual confrontation.

It's a big week here in East Tennessee because it's Florida Week. The Vols will face off against the Gators on Saturday.

Big Orange fans showed their spirit a little early out in West Knoxville. Fans gathered in the corner parking lot of Belk to enjoy live music from the Southern Drawl Band.

There was also a Q&A with Bob Kessling and John Brice. Fans also got a visit from Smokey and the UT cheerleaders.

Texas Roadhouse served up ribs for the hungry fans at the event.

UT ranking remains the same despite Top 25 push

UT ranking remains the same despite Top 25 push

The University of Tennessee-Knoxville remained at No. 46 among America's top public institutions, according to the 2013 U.S. News and World Report's undergraduate rankings released Wednesday.

UT did not advance a single spot, despite the ongoing push to crack the Top 25. When the lists of public and private universities are combined, UT ranks 101st, again the same as last year.

"It's a little disappointing that we can't move up," said Rheagan Sexton, a UT junior. "I'm glad we didn't move down on the spectrum, but it is really disappointing that nothing has changed."
